New Column is up!!

Now Hear This: Ryan Adams

If You can't get there through that link, here's the full article.

yan Adams has been in numerous bands including: Blank Label, The Patty Duke Syndrome and Whiskeytown to name a few, before he made a solo career with the album, Heartbreaker.

He has made other albums that include “Rock n Roll” and the latest “Cardiology” which was set to be released October 28, 2008. Although the first single “Fix It” was released Sept. 23 of this year.

In 2001 Adams won, “Best Male Rock Vocal” as well as “Best Rock Album.” Although he didn’t win, he was also nominated the same year for the “Best Male Country Vocal” for his version of Hank Williams’ song “Love Sick Blues”.

Ryan Adams is one of my favorite singers; his bluesy, yet alternative country sound is reminiscent of Bob Dylan. Both have amazing voices that are gravelly and beautiful, Adams’ voice is showcased in the ballad, “Hotel Chelsea Nights.”

Besides the rocking guitar riffs and powerful ballads that Adams and Dylan both sing, they are also both long time residents of New York City; The Big Apple is ever present in their music.

Adams definitely has a New York sound to his music. You can almost picture the smoky bar in Greenwich Village; Adams on stage with an acoustic guitar, a drink, getting ready to give the crowd an impromptu concert.

While that scene constantly resounds in Ryan Adams’ songs and albums, he is also great to listen to in the car on late drives, escially my favorite song, “Come Pick Me Up”.

Adams has been featured in movies like “Elizabethtown” and in popular TV shows like “One Tree Hill.” I give Ryan Adams 4 stars out of 5.
