My First Column!

My first column as a columnist was published today!

I'm so excited, this is totally an awesome day!

The website to see the article is: Now Hear This: Muse as Muse

YAY!

If you can't get to that link, here's the full article.

he band Muse has been used as a muse in the writing of the popular series “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer and their music has been used in movies like “Swordfish” and video games like “Guitar Hero.”

Muse started out as a small band from Teignmouth, England and while the British were not too keen on them, stating they sounded too much like Radiohead—the United States were more than willing to sign them—starting the band’s pathway into modern pop culture and radio sets everywhere.

Their sound cannot be labeled because it changes with every album. Their songs can range from hard-hitting rock to soft harmonious lyrics that create a scene in your head.

The song “Butterflies and Hurricanes” has a beautiful orchestra that lends itself to the self-empowering lyrics

that float like a butterfly and hit like a hurricane. All of their albums are rumored to have hidden messages in them.

One thing that is present are the musical tastes they are inspired by, like Italian and yet they also have a hint of Depeche Mode and a small tasting of Jimi Hendrix. In the album “Absolution,” the band also makes major use of distorted bass lines to add a heavier, more intense feel to their riffs.

While “Absolution” in my opinion is Muse’s best album, their other studio albums like “Black Holes and Revelations,” “Showbiz” and “Origin of Symmetry” all are great albums that are great at creating pictures and stories in the listener’s head. With the band’s natural talent and ever-changing sound, I give them a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
